Suspense Audio Visual

I created this project in InDesign by first setting up a clean page layout and using strong colour gradients to give it a futuristic, tech-inspired feel. I placed El Bot at the centre because he’s the focus of the story – a powerful character who’s half Russian and half Romanian, built to fight and survive. I imported the character illustration as a vector graphic to keep it sharp, then adjusted stroke weights and opacity, so it blended into the background rather than feeling pasted on. I used gradients that transition from green to blue and dark tones to suggest technology, strength, and mystery, and I carefully aligned the text to balance the heavy visual weight of the character. The typography is simple and bold, so it doesn’t compete with El Bot, but still feels strong and mechanical.

If I were to improve this, I’d work more on hierarchy and spacing, especially in the text areas, so the eye flows more naturally across the page. I’d also experiment with scale and contrast, maybe pushing the character even larger or adding subtle texture to the background to create more depth. The best part of the design, in my opinion, is the colour palette and the way El Bot feels integrated into the page rather than sitting on top of it. Overall, I think it clearly communicates his strength, background, and personality while showing confident use of InDesign tools like gradients, alignment, and layout control.

Typography best practice

Important notes when working with typography.

Readability comes first
If it’s hard to read, it fails, no matter how pretty it looks. Pay attention to font size, line length, and line spacing.

Choose typefaces with intent.
Every font has a personality. Match it to the message, audience, and context.

Limit the number of fonts.s
Usually 1or 2 typefaces are enough. Too many fonts create visual noise.

Establish hierarchy
Use size, weight, and spacing to guide the reader’s eye (headings, subheadings, body text).

Mind spacing
Kerning, tracking, and leading matter more than people think; poor spacing can ruin good type.

Maintain contrast
Ensure sufficient contrast between text and background for accessibility and clarity.

Be consistent
Consistent styles build trust and make layouts feel intentional and professional.

Respect alignment
Clean alignment (left, center, grid-based) improves structure and flow.

Don’t stretch or distort type.e
Scale proportionally; distortion makes typography look amateurish.

Test in real conditions
View your type on different screens, sizes, and print formats before finalizing.
